Ahyun Jeon
Ahyun Jeon (b. 1997) is a painter based between Seoul and New York, whose emotionally charged works explore the human body through abstraction and expressive color. Focusing primarily on hands and legs—often magnified and decontextualized—her paintings use bold, unexpected palettes to question the boundaries between the physical and the psychological.
Blending figuration with abstraction, Ahyun’s close-up compositions invite viewers into a space of ambiguity, where forms are both familiar and unrecognizable. This tension mirrors the complexity of emotion she aims to express—balancing anxiety and serenity, vulnerability and strength. Her work explores the body not as a static form, but as a site of emotional communication.
Ahyun’s relationship with art began during her childhood in Berkeley, where she first used drawing as a way to connect with others in the absence of shared language. That formative experience remains central to her practice today: painting as a form of non-verbal communication, open and universally accessible. She continues to value art not as something difficult or distant, but as a bridge—welcoming, intuitive, and deeply human.
She holds a BFA from Ewha Womans University and an MFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York.
